Sunday Brunch interview with Leigh

I had the pleasure this week of being interviewed on Athena Elizabeth‘s “Sunday Brunch” blog, where we talked about my novel, Memoirs of a Synth: Gold Record, the SPSFC competition (where I took fourth place), my thoughts on writing, and a few other things! Check it out: Sunday Brunch Author Interview Series: Leigh Saunders (And don’t you just love my “official author photo” by the wonderful digital artist, parrotdolphin? SPSFC3 Award Announced!

I’m so excited to announce that out of over 200 entries, my space opera heist novel, “Memoirs of a Synth: Gold Record” took 4th place in the 2024 SPSFC Competition – and from what I’ve heard, the competition was fierce among all six finalists! Tour Guide. Emissary. Diplomat. Thief. On her 317th birthday, Brianna Rei hooks up with smuggler-thief Jerrold McKell to steal the legendary Voyager Gold Record. But their partnership doesn’t go exactly as Read More …

Where All Memories are One in “Alien Days” anthology

There is a scene fairly early in Memoirs of a Synth: Gold Record where Brianna uses the sticky label from a beer bottle to preserve the memory molecules given to her by Y’reui, an aged Callibrini Queen. The story in those molecules is never revealed in the novel – it has no bearing on the events of Brianna and Jerrold’s first adventure – but the Alien Days anthology gave me a perfect opportunity to share Read More …

Memoirs of a Synth: Gold Record in the 2019 StoryBundle “Space Opera” collection!

“…Covering vast areas of space with flashing spaceships and nifty alien races, space opera in the hands of great authors helped me time after time to get off this planet and live among the stars where life was a lot more fun than my real life. So for me, great, classic space opera is always my favorite kind of reading still to this day…” – Dean Wesley Smith I am delighted to announce that my Read More …

Write the next line…

One of my writing mentors often says that the way to get past writer’s block, is just to  write the next line, even if you don’t know where it will take you. I often think of it as just taking the next step while staring out across the trackless desert sands from atop a camel’s back, but that’s just the image I’ve created for myself. When I wrote Memoirs of a Synth: Gold Record, the Read More …

Memoirs of a Synth: Gold Record

I’m very pleased – very, very pleased – to introduce you to my good friend, Brianna Rei, the main character of Gold Record, the first full-length novel in the Memoirs of a Synth series. If you’ve read the short story, Firstdawn, you’ve already met Brianna, and you know that she’s smart, a little sassy, takes risks for a living, and is always on the run. What you may not know is that she’s been pestering Read More …

Missing WorldCon

Sadly, I’m not going to make it to Renovation, the 69th World Science Fiction Convention. Much as I’d like to be there – both to see old friends and meet new ones – real life demands are keeping me at home. Fortunately, my publisher, Camden Park Press, came up with an idea I hope will catch on – during the WorldCon weekend (Aug 17-21), we’re discounting the price of my novel, Memoirs of a Synth: Read More …

Expect the unexpected…

I was very happy a few days ago when I read the NASA report that the Voyager spacecraft are at the edge of the solar system, and about to enter interstellar space. Why? Because I remember when they took off – I was in high school, and wrote a report for my English class. My report would have been much better if I’d had access to resources like the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Voyager mission page; Read More …
